Writing Center

The Writing Center on our Golden Triangle campus provides free tutorial services to all currently enrolled East Mississippi Community College students and employees. Trained tutors, or writing consultants, will assist writers of all skill levels, during any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming for ideas to polishing a final draft. In addition, consultants will also offer feedback and assistance with writing résumés, cover letters, scholarship essays, and other academic- and career-related writing. We have developed a few options that allow you to meet with our consultants. As always, our services are absolutely free. You simply need a computer with internet capability.

Here are the steps you will want to take to make an appointment for the Writing Center on our Golden Triangle campus and choose which service best meets your needs.

#1. Visit emccwritingcenter.setmore.com. If you have never used our services before, please make an account USING YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL. This takes just a few seconds. Choose the time and day you would like to receive feedback.

#2. Decide which service you want. Your options will appear on the home screen at emccwritingcenter.setmore.com (Links to an external site.).

You can choose an In-Person Consultation. 

AFter Choosing the Face to Face option, provide the necessary information. Come to the student union building, room 605, at your scheduled time. It is helpful to bring a copy of your assignment and a paper copy of what you hae written so far. 

You can choose a Submission-Only Appointment:

You may make your Submission-Only appointment up to an hour before the scheduled time. However, you are much more likely to get the time you want if you schedule in advance. After making your appointment on the scheduler, you will submit the draft you want evaluated via email to writingcenter@eastms.edu You may submit at any time PRIOR to your appointment time. See the submission instructions below. Our consultants will offer you feedback and return the draft to you within a couple of hours.

*You can choose a Live Chat Appointment:

Choose Zoom or Video Chat when making your appointment, and a consultant will contact you with an appropriate link to join a live chat meeting at the time of your appointment.

ALWAYS remember to submit your WORD document for review prior to your appointment. See instructions below.

• Submitting your WORD document for review (2 methods depending on your version of WORD)

1. If you are using the online version of WORD through Microsoft 365, you will simply use the “share” button at the top right corner of your WORD document to send a link of your document to your tutor via email. You will still need to make an appointment using Setmore.
2. If you are using traditional WORD (not an online version), you will also make an appointment using Setmore, then attach your document to an email addressed to writingcenter@eastms.edu 
3. You may also attach your assignment and/or ask the tutor specific questions.  

Hours of Operation for the Fall Term 2024: 

The Writing Center offers In-Person and Virtual appointments

Monday - Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Evening and weekend hours are virtual only:

Monday and Wednesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon.
