A White Coat Ceremony for students enrolled in East Mississippi Community College’s Class of 2026 Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program took place the afternoon of Sept. 23 in the Imagination Center at The Communiversity.
The was EMCC’s second annual White Coat Ceremony, which emphasizes the importance of compassion in patient care at the start of medical training, according to the website.
About 45 ADN students took part in the ceremony.
The welcome was provided by EMCC Director of Nursing Programs/Associate Dean of Health Sciences Jamonicia Johnson. Guest speakers included former ADN graduate Kayln Abrams and Kyle Younger, an EMCC employee with two children who graduated from the program and a third currently enrolled. The keynote speaker was Shelly Kidder, RN staff development specialist with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Associate Degree Nursing faculty members presented the students with their white coats, which was followed by a recitation of the nursing oath. EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks provided the closing remarks.
