A popular tuition break implemented at East Mississippi Community College last year will return this summer, with additional cost savings for students who reside in student housing on the college’s Scooba campus and take classes during the months of June and July.
In-state students enrolled in for-credit academic courses at EMCC will pay half the normal tuition cost for the 2024 Maymester, Full Summer, Summer Intensive I and Summer Intensive II terms.
In addition, dormitory costs will be waived for the month of July for residential students on our Scooba campus who stay in student housing and take classes during the months of June and July. There is no discount for meals.
This is the second year in a row that EMCC has offered the half-off tuition break during the months of May, June and July. The tuition discount does not apply to course fees and textbook purchases.
It is the first time the college has offered to waive July dormitory costs to residential students who remain on campus and take classes during the summer months.
“Thanks to the support of our Mississippi legislators, district boards of supervisors and our EMCC Board of Trustees, we have been able to reduce costs for our students while providing them with an opportunity to pick up additional courses over the summer,” EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks said.
The enrollment process for summer terms will remain unchanged, but in-state students taking academic classes will only be charged half the price of tuition during the Maymester, Full Summer and Intensive I and II terms.
Maymester online classes began May 6, while on-campus classes begin May 10. Online Full-Term and online June Term classes begin June 3, as do Full Summer and Intensive I classes. Summer Intensive II and July online classes begin July 1.
Class schedules for Maymester, Full Summer, Summer Intensive I, and Summer Intensive II terms for EMCC’s campuses are posted to the EMCC website at www.eastms.edu. Click on “Class Schedules” under the Student Services tab for a list of classes.

This summer will mark the fourth consecutive year that EMCC has reduced tuition to students taking summer classes. In 2022, the college offered $500 in tuition assistance to qualified students who enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours. For the Summer 2021 semester, EMCC offered free tuition and waived up to $500 in costs for course fees, textbooks, on-campus housing and meal plans to students taking for-credit classes, thanks to funding provided through federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds.
“We take pride in the fact that we are able to provide financial assistance to students who attend EMCC in multiple ways,” Alsobrooks said. “We also offer numerous institutional, departmental and activity-based scholarships that benefit a great many of our students.”
