East Mississippi Community College hosted its Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) fall induction ceremony for the Golden Triangle campus Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Lyceum Auditorium. The event celebrated the academic achievements of students who have demonstrated excellence by maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher with at least 12 completed college credit hours.
The ceremony featured a special address by Devin Chadwick, an admissions recruiter from the University of Southern Mississippi. Chadwick shared insights on leadership and academic growth, offering inspiration to the newly inducted members of Phi Theta Kappa.
During the ceremony, new members of the Beta Iota Zeta chapter of PTK were formally inducted. The ceremony included symbolic candle lighting and the signing of the chapter register, marking the students’ official entry into the prestigious honor society. EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks offered remarks, celebrating the students’ academic successes and encouraging them to continue their scholarly pursuits.
Refreshments for the evening were provided by The University of Southern Mississippi.
“We are incredibly proud of our students’ hard work and perseverance,” PTK Chapter Advisor Scott Baine said. “This ceremony gave us the opportunity to honor their remarkable achievements and welcome them into a society that offers life-changing opportunities.”
Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society for two-year colleges. PTK’s mission is to recognize and support the academic achievement of community college students and help them develop into scholars and leaders.
