Recent Practical Nursing graduates in the program on East Mississippi Community College’s Golden Triangle campus had a 100 percent pass rate for the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX-PN. Students must pass the test to receive their nursing license.

The 2024 national pass rate for first-time test takers in the U.S. is 89.91 percent, according to statistics compiled by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The 2023 pass rate for EMCC’s first-time takers of the NCLEX-PN on the Golden Triangle campus was 88.89 percent, while the national average for that year was 86.68 percent.

“We are really proud of our students,” Director of Nursing Programs| Associate Dean of Health Sciences Jamonicia Johnson said. “The NCLEX is designed to be difficult to ensure that those who enter the nursing field are equipped to address complex medical issues that will arise daily in their careers. The fact that we had a 100 percent pass rate this year is not only a testament to the students’ hard work but to the outstanding instructors we are fortunate to have here at EMCC in our Practical Nursing program.”

Twenty-two students graduated from the Practical Nursing program on the Golden Triangle campus during a July 29 commencement ceremony at The Communiversity. The students took the NCLEX-PN exam in August and September. The official results were released by the NCSBN and Mississippi Board of Nursing in October.

Students took the test at Pearson Vue, an approved testing center, with locations in Jackson and Tupelo. Forty-two states in the U.S. are part of a compact of states that utilize the NCLEX-PN and students who pass the test are licensed to practice in any of those states.

EMCC offers Practical Nursing programs on both its Golden Triangle and Scooba campuses. Instructors on the Golden Triangle campus are Jemecia Arnold, Reginald Askew and Michelle Melton. Scooba campus instructors are Princess Dawkins, Linda Farmer and Chiquita Jones.

The Class of 2024 Practical Nursing graduates are Jazzetta Anthony, Morgan Breland, Payton Brown, Zabia Bohannon, Whitney Cummings, Cassie Daniel, Laci Fondren, Ashlea Howell, Lauren Jennings, Taylor Jones, Georgia Kelly, Chloe McDonald, Santeuana Miller, Mariyah Moore, Brailey Reed, Kiara Roby, Jacob Rogers, Islandia Russell, Kyia Skinner, Mindy Via, Amy Wells and Bailey Williamson.

For the last three years, the job placement rate for graduates of the Practical Nursing program has been 100 percent.
