For the first time, East Mississippi Community College is offering full three-week-long courses in the month of May.
Classes for the term dubbed “Maymester” will be available online and at both the Scooba and Golden Triangle campuses.
The three-weeks long Maymester classes begin May 7 and end May 24, with final exams on May 25. All of the classes meet Monday through Friday. Registration for Maymester begins April 3.
EMCC Associate Dean of Instruction Gina Thompson said the extra term will provide students an opportunity to pick up an additional class.
Here is a list of classes available on the Scooba campus: Principles of Biology I; Principles of Biology II; Intermediate English; English Composition I; College Algebra; and Public Speaking I. Principles of Biology I and II meet from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with the remainder of the classes running from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Classes that will be offered on the Golden Triangle campus are: Accounting I; Ceramics I; Macroeconomics; Engineering Mechanics I; Intermediate English; English Composition I; English Composition II; Western Civilization I; Western Civilization II; American History I; First Aid & CPR; College Study Skills; Beginning Algebra; Intermediate Algebra; College Algebra; American National Government; General Psychology; Intro to Sociology; and Public Speaking I. All classes on the Golden Triangle campus meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Online courses that will be offered during Maymester are: Human Growth Development; English Composition II; Psychology; Hospitality Seminar; Entrepreneurship; Advertising; College Algebra; and Personal & Community Health.
Additional classes may be offered.
“Most of our fulltime instructors are teaching classes during Maymester,” Thompson said. “We had a request from the College of Engineering at Mississippi State University to offer Engineering Mechanics. We have taught this course in the spring but this will be the first time it is available during the summer.”
Regular summer classes at EMCC are four-weeks long and are available during the month of June and again in the month of July. June and July classes run Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
