East Mississippi Community College will host Fitness on Main in downtown DeKalb from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19.
“We will have a lot of fitness activities, games for children and nutritious snacks,” EMCC Wellness Director Kate McCarty said. “This is a free event and everyone in Kemper County and surrounding areas is invited to attend.”
The event is made possible through a grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
TNT Boxing Group out of Meridian will host “Boxing for Fitness,” a popular exercise routine that incorporates boxing moves. The fitness routine will take place on Veterans Street between the courthouse and the main stage.
There will be several activities for all ages leading up to the demonstration by TNT Boxing Group, such as hula hoops, foam balance beam races, jumping rope and hopscotch.
Games will be available, such as a bucket toss, relay races and a Tiger Paw race, which is run on 4-inch foam stilts that look like tiger paws. There will also be free snacks and giveaways of items such as EMCC T-shirts, water bottles, drawstring backpacks and insulated lunch boxes.
“We will have a lot of activities families can participate in together,” McCarty said. “We encourage everyone to come out, enjoy the activities and learn ways you can get fit while having fun.”
