An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony took place Jan. 29 at The Communiversity to highlight a partnership between East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University to provide new workforce services to industries and additional training opportunities to area residents.

In the Fall of 2024, East Mississippi Community College’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) inducted 25 students, representing the college’s second class of inductees to join the organization.

Jonathan Russell, an All American dual-sport athlete who played football and baseball for East Mississippi Community College, launched a Florida-based construction company five years ago that was on track to top $30 million in revenues by the end of 2024.

Mathiston resident Dennisia Batts, at left, and her daughter, Kylie Brown, both graduated from East Mississippi Community College last December. Batts completed the Associate Degree Nursing program on the college’s Golden Triangle campus. Brown earned an associate degree in general studies and enrolled this semester in the Practical Nursing program on EMCC’s Scooba campus.

It's been a little more than a month since Dennisia Batts and her daughter, Kylie Brown, graduated from East Mississippi Community College. For Batts, her Dec. 5 graduation from the Associate Degree Nursing program on EMCC's Golden Triangle campus was the culmination of a protracted educational journey fraught with obstacles, heartbreak and, ultimately, joy.

Members of the EMCC softball team now have a dedicated facility that includes a combination recreation and lobby area, locker rooms and enclosed pitching and hitting lanes. The Adult Education Launch Pad on East Mississippi Community College's Golden Triangle campus conducted a graduation ceremony Dec. 12 for students who had earned their high school equivalency diplomas.

Belhaven University and the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges signed an articulation agreement that allows students at Mississippi’s 15 community colleges to transfer into Belhaven University’s Bachelor of Science program in Elementary Teacher Education. EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, back row third from left attended the signing, as did presidents and representatives from the state’s other community colleges.
