If you haven’t taken the ACT on one of the national test dates, you may take the On-Campus
ACT through EMCC’s Office of Advising, Retention, and Student Success. The ACT or ACCUPLACER test is recommended to students for course placement purposes. EMCC administers the
On-Campus ACT test to incoming EMCC students only. Pre-registration is required, and
there is a $70 fee. Students who are not satisfied with their ACT scores can choose
to take the ACCUPLACER test, administered by EMCC, instead of re-taking the ACT.
Students seeking admission to certain CT programs must submit an ACT score. Accuplacer will not suffice for admission to the following programs: Cosmetology/Barbering,
Nursing, Funeral Services, EMT, Culinary Arts, and Hotel and Restaurant Management
Technology. Students should check with the advisors of the other programs of study
that require testing scores for entry to determine which type of entry score is accepted.
The ACT test is an entrance exam that assesses students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The multiple-choice test covers four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay. The Writing Test is not included in EMCC On-Campus ACT Testing.
